Description
In a nutshell:
An excellent ripe and fruity organic Beaujolais with a real depth of flavour.
The lowdown:
From the cru village of Saint-Amour this is a lovely Beaujolais with a bit more depth and concentration than many others. Made by the small family estate of Domaine Chardigny which is run by three young brothers and undergoing a real transformation, the wines just keep getting better. À La Folie comes from a stony, south facing vineyard with 50 year old vines and after fermentation the wine is aged in a mix of small and large oak barrels, and stainless steel, for 12 months. Ripe red fruit aromas along with some depth, darkness and smoky notes. The palate is medium-bodied with a great freshness and ripeness to the fruit yet this wine has a bit more structure, body and depth than others along with silky tannins and a long finish.
The Producer:
Domaine Chardigny, sits at the southern tip of the Mâconnais, nudging into Beaujolais territory, and boasts a dual-region presence. The estate, managed by the Chardigny brothers - Pierre-Maxime, Jean-Baptiste, and Victor-Emmanuel - produces wines from Saint-Véran, Saint-Amour, and broader Burgundy and Beaujolais appellations. Their commitment to organic farming saw them achieve certification in 2019, a testament to their dedication to sustainable viticulture.
When to drink:
Highly versatile, try with charcuterie, pâtés and terrines, soft cheeses such as brie, and will work particularly well with game and poultry, especially duck or guinea fowl.
