Mature Médoc Elegance for a Modest Outlay

Medium

If you’re partial to a bit of mature Médoc elegance that won’t require a bank loan, then Chapelle de Potensac 2016 might just be what you’re looking for. We’ve got our hands on a small parcel of this lovely second wine from Château Potensac, one of the northern Médoc’s finest estates. This is proper Bordeaux, from a top estate that won’t burn a hole in your pocket.

Château Potensac itself boasts impressive lineage. It’s part of a small but notable stable that includes Léoville Las Cases in Saint-Julien and Nénin in Pomerol. So, you can be sure the team making Chapelle de Potensac know exactly what they’re doing. Made predominantly with Merlot (a solid 70%, if we’re getting technical), and with just a light hand on the oak, this is a Claret that doesn’t demand decades in the cellar to shine. In fact, it’s at its best right now and fully ready to drink.

What’s particularly appealing here is the balance. It’s got that classic Médoc structure, but it’s not the sort of wine you’ll need to wrestle with. Soft, rounded, and very drinkable - impressive, but not intimidating.

But, and here’s the catch – we don’t have a lot of it. When this parcel’s gone, it’s gone. So, if I were you, I’d act swiftly and nab a few bottles while they’re still up for grabs. Perfect for an autumn evening or a Sunday roast, and, frankly, a bit too good to miss.
