Description
In a nutshell:
A dry, fruity and refreshing white wine blend, with flavours of citrus and stone fruits from New Hall Wine Estate in Essex.
The lowdown:
The history of vineyards in Essex go back to the Middle Ages, although New Hall Wine Estate was established in 1969, which makes it one of the oldest commercial vineyards in the UK. The estate has an impressive 49 hectares under vine and one of the largest plantings of Bacchus in the UK. The vines are planted on sheltered southern facing slopes in the Crouch Valley, and mainly London clay soils, with chalk concealed below the clay deposits. The blend for this wine include grape varieties which thrive in English terroir: Schonburg, a cross between Pinot Noir and Pirovano 1, which produces aromatic floral and lightly spiced flavours; Pinot Blanc and Huxelrebe, which produces aromatic, fragrant flavours. The fruit is harvested by hand when it has reached maturity. The grapes underwent a cool, steady fermentation in stainless steel tanks with carefully selected yeast strains. This is a dry, fruit-driven white blend showing pear, grapefruit and lemon with notes of honeysuckle and English Hedgerow on the nose. Supple roundness with a slight saline minerality gives a mouth-watering and refreshing finish.
When to drink:
Would pair well with light fish and vegetable dishes, perfect for a sunny spring day.
