Description
At a Glance:
| Fruity & Bright White | Dry | Light-Medium Body | Unoaked | Vegan | South Africa | ABV 12.5% | 75cl |
In a Nutshell:
A bright, characterful South African white, bursting with tropical fruit, a touch of citrus, and a nice floral lift.
The Lowdown:
A blend of old-vine Chenin Blanc and young Viognier that works a treat. Chenin makes up about three-quarters of the mix, bringing fresh stone-fruit character, while the Viognier adds richness and aroma. Some of the Chenin is wild yeast fermented and left on its lees for extra texture, giving a more rounded feel. Juicy apricot and white peach lead on the nose, with a hint of floral perfume. The palate is refreshing, with more stone fruit and a touch of minerality. Altogether, a flavoursome and characterful white that ticks plenty of boxes.
The Producer:
Boutinot has been part of the South African winemaking scene since 1994, originally drawn by a love of Loire-style Chenin Blanc. Since then, they've branched out in all sorts of directions. Their winemaking team - JD Rossouw and Ryno Booysen - bring the energy and enthusiasm, while Samantha Bailey adds a touch of finesse. It's a mix of knowledge, nature, and a bit of science, all coming together to create a versatile and expressive range of wines in a country with 360 years of winemaking history.
When to Drink:
Great with grilled prawns, pan-fried sea bass, or a simple plate of lemony squid. The bright stone fruit and fresh acidity cut through beautifully - but wonderfully refreshing on its own too.
