Description
In a nutshell:
Bright, zesty, and straight from Franschhoek - South African Chardonnay with pure fruit, crisp freshness, and not an ounce of oak in sight.
The lowdown:
A Chardonnay that tells it straight - unoaked and all about fruit and minerality. Think along the lines of a good Mâconnais Burgundy, but with a sunnier South African twist. Fermented in stainless steel and left on its lees for 16 weeks, it's vibrantly aromatic, with ripe apple, pear, tropical fruit, and a touch of fresh herbs on the nose. The palate is clean and precise, with plenty of sun-drenched fruit and zesty, refreshing acidity running through to a wonderfully smooth finish. Bright, pure, and effortlessly drinkable, this is Chardonnay with nothing to hide.
The Producer:
Situated above the fertile Franschhoek valley Chamonix Wine Farm is all about place. They aim at authentic old world-styles of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Franc that are full of grace and elegance. Since being acquired by German-born entrepreneur and adventurer Chris Hellinger two decades ago, the estate has undergone tremendous improvements, and in addition to their top quality they offer visitors a host of culinary and recreational options in spectacular surroundings. Heading up the winemaking team is the talented Niel Bruwer.
When to drink:
With its clean, pure and fruity character it's a perfect aperitif wine and good a partner simply cooked fish dishes.
