Description
In a nutshell:
A clean and crisp un-oaked Chardonnay from the Ardèche region south of Lyons.
The lowdown:
Louis Latour are justly famous for their white Burgundies, but have also been making excellent value chardonnays in a similar style from their vineyards slightly to the south for some years and with great success. This cuvée is their non-oaked version and has subtly honeyed aromas and a lively acidity which brings out the ripe pear and white peach flavours very well indeed.
The Producer:
Louis Latour, one of the biggest names in Burgundy, has been around since 1797, starting out in Beaune. While justly famous for their top-notch Grand Crus theyve played a big role in the Burgundian wine trade over the years. Still run by the same family, with the 11th generation now in charge, they offer something at all levels. Their Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru might be the star, but youll find the same quality in their more affordable regional wines. A dependable name on the label whatever the price level.
When to drink:
A fresh and appealing wine with considerable depth of flavour which makes a good match with many types of poultry dishes.
