Description
In a nutshell:
A bright and aromatic white from Galicia's Ribeiro region, full of zesty citrus, white peach, and a subtle floral lift, all wrapped up with a fresh, mineral finish.
The lowdown:
Ribeiro may be less well-known than its Galician neighbour Rías Baixas, but its wines have a character all their own - rounder, more floral, and full of charm. Treixadura leads the charge here, joined by Godello and Loureiro, all native grape varieties that thrive in the region's inland vineyards. Sourced from a patchwork of tiny plots, each batch is fermented and aged on lees separately before blending - giving real depth and texture. Expect elegant white flowers, green apple, and grapefruit on the nose, with lively acidity and ripe white peach on the palate. Fresh, vibrant, and beautifully structured, it's a good expression of Galicia's lesser-known white wines.
The Producer:
Priorarto de Razamonde sits on the banks of the Miño river in the northwestern province of Galicia and is small, family run business headed up José Pérez Pousa. As is typical for this part of the world their vines are split up into tiny plots, over 150 of them making up less than 25 hectares in total, making mechanisation a bit of a headache. The large majority of their grapes are the local white varieties, Treixadura, Godello and Loureira. The vineyards of Ribeiro, similar to its neighbour Rias Baixas, are influenced by Atlantic breezes, but also sheltered by adjacent mountains which give the warm days and cool nights perfect for ripe yet fresh white wines. They've only been around a short time - their first vintage was in 2012 - but that hasn't stopped them building an enviable reputation pretty quickly.
When to drink:
A no-brainer by itself, but why stop there? It's spot on with grilled sea bass, prawns, or a zesty summer salad - fresh acidity and ripe fruit keeping everything crisp, bright, and beautifully balanced.
