Description
In a nutshell:
A juicy, thirst-quenching Gamay from the Loire Valley, packed with bright red fruit and a touch of spice.
The lowdown:
Gamay might be best known for its juicy, fruit-forward Beaujolais styles, but here in the Loire Valley, it takes on a bit more structure and depth. Still light and fresh, this one is packed with wild strawberries and cherries, with just a hint of liquorice and subtle spice.A short malolactic fermentation and a little time on the lees help round out the edges, adding softness without weighing it down. Fragrant and vibrant, it practically sings on the tongue - bright, effortless, and full of charm. An honest, delicious young wine that's very easy to enjoy.
The Producer:
Based in the wine-growing town of Thésée in the Cher Valley, Domaine Villemaine benefits from the region's clay-limestone and clay-siliceous soils, along with the gentle microclimate of the Cher River. The estate has been around since 1825, but its from the late 1960s onwards that it really took shape in its modern form. Today, Jérémy Villemaine is at the helm, steering things forward with a mix of tradition and energy. Sauvignon Blanc is their mainstay, alongside plantings of Gamay and Cot. Fully organic since 2023, their wines are good-value expressions of what the Touraine area's best.
When to drink:
Slightly chilled, it's a joy on its own but even better with saucisson, duck rillettes, or roast chicken, the juicy fruit and gentle spice balance rich charcuterie and simple poultry beautifully.
Suitable for Vegans
