Description
In a nutshell:
A biodynamic Cabernet Franc from Stellenbosch, bursting with juicy red berries, earthy herbs, and a hint of spice, all wrapped up in smooth tannins and fresh, elegant balance.
The lowdown:
This is Cabernet Franc, South African style - ripe and fruit-forward, but still true to its roots. The classic aromas of graphite, leafy herbs, and red berries are all there, leading into a palate full of juicy fruit, subtle spice, and a clean, mineral finish that keeps things fresh. It's got depth and complexity in spades, showing off everything this grape can do when given a bit more sunshine. Still unmistakably Cabernet Franc, but with a warmer, more generous style that feels a little more laid-back without losing its sense of place.
The Producer:
Waterkloof, founded in 2004 by Paul Boutinot, is a haven for thoughtfully produced wines. This family-owned estate embraces organic and biodynamic practices, boasting the prestigious WWF Biodiversity Champion status. High on the Schapenberg hills, vineyards overlook False Bay, where cool breezes and long growing seasons nurture balanced grapes. In the cellar, winemaker Nadia Langenegger takes these gems and lets their natural character shine through minimal intervention. The results of her labours shine through clearly in their authentic, elegant wines.
When to drink:
A perfect match with hearty, slow-cooked dishes - think beef stew with root veg, lamb shank, or a rich mushroom ragout - as its earthy depth and herbal notes match beautifully with those deep, braised flavours.
Suitable for Vegans, Biodynamic
