Description
In a nutshell:
A full bodied, unoaked and very flavourful cloudy natural wine with fruity and nutty aromas.
The lowdown:
As a part of the world thats good for making natural wines, Chile has got to be one of the best. And Vina Echeverrías ¡No es Pituko! (meaning it aint fancy) range was one that particularly impressed us. Being naturally vinified means itll be a bit hazy in the glass and thats how its meant to be. All told, this is a Chardonnay with has quite intense aromas of banana, apple and pear which blend nicely with touches of toasted brioche. For an unoaked wine its still fairly full-bodied and rich and the creamy palate is balanced by a refreshing and fruity finish. A attractive example of naturally made Chardonnay.
The Producer:
Very much a family operation Vina Echeverría, with roots going back to the 1930s, was really put on a modern footing back in the 1980s by former World Bank economist Roberto Echeverría. Upon returning to Chile from the USA he set about renovating the familys rundown estate and has since made it into a widely admired winery. They have 65 hectares of sustainably farmed vineyards in Chiles Central Valley and Robertos son, Roberto Ignacio, is the chief winemaker and runs the business alongside his 3 siblings.
When to drink:
When matching with food poultry, pork or vegetable dishes are the sorts of things that work well.
Suitable for Vegans, Organic
