Description
Complex & Structured Red
Medium-Full Body, Oaked
Tuscany & Central Italy, ABV 14.5%, 75cl
In a Nutshell:
Polished, expressive Sangiovese from a standout Montepulciano vineyard.
The Lowdown:
From one of Montepulcianos top vineyard sites, this is a focused and expressive take on one of Tuscanys finest appellations. Vino Nobile di Montepulciano has long stood alongside Brunello and Chianti Classico as a benchmark for age-worthy Sangiovese, and this is a clear example of why.
Made from Sangiovese and aged in a mix of large barrels and smaller oak casks, the wine is structured yet measured. The nose is aromatic and savoury, with cherry, dried herbs and a gentle floral lift. On the palate its firm, balanced and finely textured, with a clean line of acidity and a long, composed finish. Clay and fossil-rich soils bring mineral grip and definition, tying everything together with assurance.
The Producer:
La Braccesca lies between the historic hills of Montepulciano and the sun-soaked slopes of Cortona - a meeting point of classic Tuscan tradition and modern ambition. Acquired in 1990 by Marchesi Antinori, one of Italy's most respected and forward-thinking wine families, the estate has gone from strength to strength. Vino Nobile di Montepulciano remains at its core, produced with care and a strong sense of place, while Syrah and Merlot from the warmer Cortona vineyards bring a fresher, more contemporary voice. As with all Antinori estates, there's a steady hand at the helm and a focus on getting the best from the land.
When to Drink:
Drinking well from now, though another year or so will bring added harmony. Will continue to develop through to 2035. Pair with roast pork, herby lamb or mushroom dishes to echo its savoury depth.
