Description
In a nutshell:
A rich and seductive Amarone from one of the top producers from the Veronese region.
The lowdown:
Amarone is a distinctive, powerful style of red wine made in the Valpolicella region of north west Italy. To make it rather than being pressed soon after harvest the grapes are dried for four months in a controlled environment prior to fermentation, following which it's aged for 30 months in large Slavonian oak barrels. The result is a rich and very full bodied wine, the nose is laden with ripe, bold red and black fruits. And on the palate are masses of cherry and plum fruit flavours on the which gives a big, rich, smooth and luscious feel. The fine tannins give it a silky smooth texture in the mouth and balances everything really well towards the lengthy, flavour packed, finish.
The Producer:
Founded back in 1902, Tommasi Viticoltori has always been about crafting top-notch wines that showcase the unique charm of the Valpolicella region. They have extensive vineyard holdings, producing a range of excellent Valpolicella styles, but it's their Amarones that really steal the show. Theyre also one of the founding members of the "Amarone Families" group, helping to put Amarone on the world map. With a blend of tradition and quality, Tommasi's wines are a true reflection of Valpolicella's rich heritage.
When to drink:
With its persisting, velvety finish it's great with beef, game and lamb and with blue cheeses it's a must.
Suitable for Vegans
