Originally brewed to celebrate the brewey's first anniversary in 1997, Stone IPA was an immediate hit and soon became their flagship beer and one of the most respected and best-selling IPAs in the USA. It explodes with tropical, citrusy, piney hop flavours and aromas, all perfectly balanced by a subtle malt character.
The Brewery:
Founded by Greg Koch and Steve Wagner, Stone Brewing has come a long way since opening in San Diego County in 1996. They're now the ninth-largest craft brewer in the US operating two breweries. One in Escondido, California and the other on the east coast in Richmond, Virginia. At the start their aim was to create amazing, flavour packed beers which provided an alternative to the industrialized beers that dominated the market at the time. While they were confident in what they were trying they certainly didn't foresee what Stone would eventually grow into, nor that their brewery would be a big part of the craft beer revolution in the US and around the world.
