Description
In a nutshell:
A super, fruity and juicy introduction to one of Hungary's trademark red grapes.
The lowdown:
We'd look at this as quite an allrounder. Its deep ruby red colour is really attractive and the flavours are honest, bright and ripe. But on top of that there's also a little touch of spice and oak making it more than just a simple glugger. The grape used, Kékfrankos, is getting quite popular these days no doubt down to the fact that it can make wines of real character and balance. You'll also often see it across the border in Austria where they call it Blaufränkisch. Either way they're well worth getting to know.
The Producer:
Based in the southern wine region of Szekszárd west of the Danube, Schieber were established in 1978 and have vineyards in the sheltered Baranya valley which is well suited to growing Kadarka and Kékfrankos used as the principal varieties in their carefully produced wines.
When to drink:
This all-round red is a joy all by itself, and, not un-naturally, it goes very well with the paprika based dishes that come from its home country.
Suitable for Vegans
