Description
In a nutshell:
A vibrant, floral example of serious Barbaresco
The lowdown:
Coming from the highly respected Prunotto winery, this single vineyard Barbaresco always stands out as one of the most reliable wines from the DOCG, and the 2020 vintage is no different. The nose is pleasingly complex, with cinnamon and cloves mingling with wild strawberries while on the palate, its bright and velvety, with ripe red berries featuring alongside earthy and leathery notes that add depth. The tannins are prominent but also ripe and supple, maintaining a good balance throughout. A fine example of Prunotto's consistent quality and craftsmanship.
The Producer:
Prunotto, named after Alfredo Prunotto who took over what was an ailing local co-operative in 1923, has steadily grown into a major force among Piedmontese wineries. During the 40s, 50s and 60s the winery steadily expanded its reach, exporting Barolo and Barbaresco globally while developing and acquiring some of the finest vineyards in these regions. In the early 1990s, the Antinori family, the Tuscan powerhouse, took over on the retirement of the Colla brothers. Since then, continuous investment and modernisation have kept Prunotto among the leading Piedmontese producers.
When to drink:
Good with any red meat dish. Can be enjoyed now or allowed to age for a few years.
