Description
In a nutshell:
A rich and distinctly smoky Islay single malt matured in a mix of American whiskey and French wine casks.
The lowdown:
At 40ppm this is on a par with any of Islay's big hitting peated whiskies and is aged for 10 years in a mix of first and second fill american whisky casks together with some French wine casks. With aromas containing a distinctive salty, seaweed feel combined with oaky smoky peatiness and rounded by a seam of rich biscuity-gingeriness it has all the smoky characteristics and more that you'd expect of a single malt from this Hebridean island.
The Producer:
Bruichladdich is an Islay distillery with roots and traditions that reach well back into the 19th century whilst fully embracing the challenges and opportunities of the 21st. Production is very much focussed around single malts with the Bruichladdich label being used for unpeated expressions, Port Charlotte being used for classic Islay peated styles and the premium Octomore range for some of the most heavily peated Scotch Whiskies you'll find. Very much committed to locally sourced ingredients, all the barley they use is Scottish grown, with a good proportion coming from the island of Islay itself. Look out also for their Botanist gin.
