Description
In a nutshell:
A classic sweet sherry style from Lustau's Solera Reserva range.
The lowdown:
Here, dry Oloroso and sweet Pedro Ximenez sherries which have been aged separately in their own soleras for 12 years are blended (80% Oloroso to 20% PX) and further aged for 3 more years to allow wine to marry. The result a really luscious and intense sherry with rich dates and prunes on the full and sweet palate before it signs off with a nuttiness and fresh acidity finish that cuts right through the sweetness.
The Producer:
Starting in modest circumstances back in 1896 Lustau originally sold their wines to larger producers rather than market them under their own name. It wasn't until the 1940s that they commenced with their own bottlings and this saw the start of real growth in their reputation. While still a small sherry house by the standards of many they are, nevertheless, one of the most respected and their range of sherries, including the acclaimed Almacenista collection, vermouths and brandies are consistently sought after.
When to drink:
Lightly chilled to about 10°C it makes a terrific wine to drink with cakes and desserts.
