This powerful blond Abbey beer is a well known brand and a wonderful example of classic Belgian beer. Full, sweet and fruity with a lingering bitter orange finish.
The Brewery:
Whilst these days the Abbaye de Leffe brewery, based in Dinant in southern Belgium, might be part of the multinational Anheuser-Busch empire, they still produce meticulously well-crafted beers. The original Abbey can trace its origins back in time to 1152 and its brewing operations are similarly ancient. Over time their reputation grew but the French Revolution put halt to things with the destruction of the original abbey. It took until 1929 to be re-established and, using original recipes, the renowned beers are still brewed to this day.
