In a nutshell: A rich and fruity red wine with black fruits and spicy character from Chile.
The lowdown: The magnificent Haras de Pirque estate occupies a privileged position at the foot of the Andes, in Chile's Maipo Valley region. The lovingly tended vineyards are on largely north-facing slopes, from the middle of which rises a unique horseshoe-shaped gravity flow winery, inspired by the estate's other claim to fame as an internationally renowned thoroughbred breeding farm. The 2019 is intense and elegant on the nose with notes of mint, spices, and liquorice, leading into ripe flavours of black fruits: blackberry, plum and cassis. Generously structured on the palate with a seam of earthy minerality.
When to drink: Would pair well with beef, lamp and pork dishes or spicy vegetable dishes.
