Description
In a nutshell:
Sleek, silky, and sophisticated, this Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon is effortlessly elegant.
The lowdown:
The Haras de Pirque estate in the Maipo Valley is an ideal location for Cabernet Sauvignon, and with the Antinori's Super Tuscan expertise behind them, it's no surprise this is quite a standout. Intense and elegant on the nose, it offers notes of mint, spices, and liquorice, leading into ripe flavours of blackberry, plum, and cassis. The palate is generously structured, with a seam of earthy minerality that adds depth. And being aged for 12 months in French oak, it boasts a sleek and sophisticated profile. At its modest price it has a lot to offer.
The Producer:
Viñas Haras de Pirque has a history that dates back to the late 1800s when it began as a thoroughbred stud farm. The winery was a much later addition in 1992 when Eduardo Matte started it up blending his twin passions for wine and horses; its stunning horseshoe-shaped buildings being a nod to its equestrian origins. It's now owned by the renowned Antinori family of Tuscany, who have made this their South American base. They recognised the local terroirs potential, especially for Cabernet Sauvignon, and have infused their unparalleled expertise into the Maipo Valley estate, just south of Santiago.
When to drink:
Would pair well with beef, lamb and pork dishes or spicy vegetable dishes.
