Description
In a nutshell:
Superb rich and complex Sauvignon from the cool southern tip of Africa.
The lowdown:
This complex and layered Wild Ferment Sauvignon comes from grapes hand-picked in the cool of the early morning whch are partially whole bunch pressed before undergoing a long, natural fermentation in 400l French oak barrels. The wine is then further matured for another 10 months in barrels on its lees. It has pronounced aromas of citrus, white pear, tropical notes of pineapple and passionfruit, a green grassy stalkiness, and a rich, almost sweet, touch of quince. The palate is rounded and fresh and bursting with flavour with light oaky touches and a lovely roundness leading to a long finish. A pretty accomplished example of cool climate, oak aged South African Sauvignon Blanc
The Producer:
Ghost Corner vineyards are situated near Cape Agulhas, Africa's southernmost tip. The unique terroir here, with cooling ocean breezes and lime-rich slate soils, creates challenging yet rewarding conditions, ideal for Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, and Pinot Noir. This premium collection is crafted by the highly regarded David Nieuwoudt of Cederberg wines, highlighting the exceptional quality that this remote region can produce. Despite the tough growing environment, the wines from Ghost Corner stand out, showcasing the remarkable potential of this far-flung corner of the wine world.
When to drink:
Try with mushrooms with a creamy sauce, dishes with a fennel influence, richer or smoked seafood.
