Description
In a nutshell:
A Côte de Nuits favourite which balances earthy charm with a polished elegance, quietly showing off the terroir's understated power.
The lowdown:
Gevrey-Chambertin is one of the Côte de Nuits' most beloved appellations, prized for its earthy richness, refined structure, and unmistakable sense of place. This example from Pierre Bourée Fils ticks all the boxes. Gently nurtured from vineyard to bottle, it's full of subtle sweet strawberry notes, fresh acidity, and a clean, vibrant palate. It's not flashy, just understated and elegant with a savoury, almost autumnal finish that lingers. Effortlessly sophisticated, emphasising finesse over fanfare.
The Producer:
Pierre Bourée Fils has been crafting fine Burgundy since 1864, when Pierre Bourée founded the estate. Now in the hands of the fourth generation, the family remains deeply rooted in tradition. They own vineyards in Gevrey-Chambertin, including a well-regarded parcel in the Grand Cru of Charmes-Chambertin, a hallmark of quality in the region. Alongside their estate wines, they are also respected négociants, producing wines from some of the Côte d'Or's most renowned appellations. Their approach combines classic winemaking with a light touch, resulting in wines that are elegant and true to their origins.
When to drink:
It's drinking beautifully now and great with things like coq au vin jaune, a gooey Mont d'Or fondue, or a proper wild mushroom fricassée - just the sort of indulgent, earthy fare it was practically made for.
Suitable for Vegans
