DESCRIPTION
Fragrant, smooth and silky Aged Tawny Port in a 50cl bottle.
The lowdown:
Aged Tawny Ports have been aged in wooden casks for an extended number of years and in the process their colour lightens and they take on a softer character. Tawnies are generally filtered before bottling so don't need decanting. Fonseca, now part of the Taylor Fladgate stable, retain their enviable reputation for quality, specialist ports. This the 10 year old is the junior partner of their tawnies and has a subtle russet colour and a fragrant, ripe bouquet. Smooth and silky in the mouth its balance between acidity and tannic grip leads onto a long elegant finish. For a well regarded producer this represents superb value for money.
When to drink:
To see it at its best serve very slightly chilled. It's a port that goes well with chocolate.
PRODUCER
Fonseca

In the early 19th century Manuel Pedro Guimaraens purchased the Fonseca & Monteiro Company of Porto which is the event considered to be the founding of this leading Port Shipper. Today the firm is properly known as Fonseca Guimareans and is under the ownership of the Taylor Flagdate partnership, one of the leading lights of the Port industry, who also count illustrious names such as Taylors and Croft among others as part of their stable.
It's managed by head winemaker David Guimaraens who is from the 6th generation of the family involved in the wine business. Over recent years Fonseca's Vintage Ports have achieved considerable success and currently command among the highest prices. Much of their fruit comes from Quinta do Panascal and Quinta do Val Muros. The house style is for firm, fresh Ports with good structure and flavour.
