Description
In a nutshell:
A brightly coloured, refreshing and fruity Rosé Port
The lowdown:
Rosé ports are a bit of a departure from the norm, but in addition to having a delightfully pale colour there's plenty going on here to make it a very worthwhile drink. Offley's Rosé Port is bright pink in colour and the nose is bursting with aromas of ripe strawberries, raspberries and redcurrants. On the palate, the sweetness is perfectly balanced by a refreshing acidity which carries the juicy fruit flavours onto the crisp and elegant finish.
The Producer:
Founded in 1737 by William Offley the business initially trading in various goods but before long started to focus on the lucrative area of port production. From there Offley grew steadily to become, by the mid-1800s, one of the biggest port houses of them all. After relative stagnation during the latter twentieth century Offley was acquired by the major Portuguese wine and drinks company Sogrape in 1996. And since then, it has undergone a renaissance, moving back up the ranks of Port producers.
When to drink:
An excellent port for drinking well chilled, on the rocks, in a large glass.
