Description
In a nutshell:
Delicate and dry English sparkling rosé from Exton Park of Hampshire.
The lowdown:
Exton's enviable Hampshire chalk hillside vineyard is planted with the traditional three Champagne varieties of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, the latter two of which form the blend of this wine. They also have a large selection of Reserve wines from back vintages, 23 of which were used for this wine, that they use to blend their current releases allowing for consistent quality year on year irrespective of the vintage, similar to what happens in Champagne. A delicate and dry sparkling rosé with a strawberry liquorice nose and notes of white peach and rose petal that develop into rich plum flavours with balanced acidity and a long finish.
The Producer:
Exton Park, situated in the rolling downs above Hampshire's beautiful Meon Valley is among England's top estates. Established in the mid-2000s, substantial investment has been put in to create a 60-acre vineyard together with a state-of-the-art winery and tasting facilities. Vineyard Director, Fred Langdale, who is a specialist in cool climate viticulture and in particular sparkling wines, has been involved from the outset and now that the vineyards are reaching maturity is able to take the credit for the reliable quality of their output. the output from Exton Park is very much a marker for the direction of English Sparkling - high quality, premium wines at sensibly pitched price levels.
When to drink:
Try with shellfish, cured meats, or fresh fruit desserts.
