Description
In a nutshell:
A rich and complex Guyanan Rum made from a blend of casks each at least 15 years old
The lowdown:
The British started distilling rum in Guyana in the 17th century and it's one of the country's signature products. All Eldorado rums are made from molasses obtained from Demerara sugar and the Special Reserve is a blend of rums made in Coofey stills and their wooden pot stills all of which have been aged for at least 15 years. Consistently rated as one, of the best rums in the Caribbean it's full and rich with aromas dark coffee, candied orange, almonds, dark chocolate, pepper and rich vanilla. Silky smooth on the palate with a long finish. Perfect for sipping.
The Producer:
El Dorado's home is in the South American country of Guyana and they're situated in Georgetown on the banks of the Demerara River. Guyana has long been associated with the growing of sugar cane and by extension the production of rum. At one time there were over 300 sugar estates in the country, each with their own still for producing rum. Over the centuries the number of estates shrank until in 1970 there were just 4 remaining who merged to form Demerara Distillers who created the Eldorado brand in 1992. Between then and now El Dorado has won many awards and a dedicated following across the world.
