In a nutshell:
A wonderfully smooth and silky rum from Trinidad and Tobago's famed House of Angostura.
The lowdown:
A wonderfully smooth and silky rum from Trinidad and Tobago's famed Angostura company, it's aged for at least 8 years in bourbon barrels. Beautifully golden in colour it has a superb nose of spiced caramel, vanilla, ginger and molasses.
The Producer:
Perhaps most famous for their bitters, Angostura are also well-known distillers of rum. Based in Port of Spain, Trinidad the company''s mainstay Angostura Bitters was originally created in the 1820s for treating stomach ailments in Venezuela where their creator Dr. Siegert was surgeon general to Simon Bolivar's army. Exported to England soon after, Angostura grew its reputation through a fondness for mixing it with gin. Siegert's sons relocated the company to its present home in Trinidad in the 1870 and the company rebranded from "Dr. Siegerts Aromatic Bitters" to the name we know today.
