Description
In a nutshell:
A pure and elegant example of left bank Claret made by a top performing Château
The lowdown:
Duluc de Branaire-Ducru is the second wine of the renowned Saint-Julien property Château Branaire-Ducru. It's made very much in the mould of the grand vin but designed to be ready for drinking at a slightly younger age. On the nose this enticingly intermingled layers of floral notes and ri[ dark fruits while the palate is round and fleshy really emphasising the rich quality of the fruit. The tannins are elegant and reserved giving a lovely smooth feel in the mouth and the finish is long and aromatic. The blend is pretty much split between Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot and it spends 12 months maturing in French oak prior to bottling. Savoury and satisfying this is good value Saint-Julien.
The Producer:
Château Branaire-Ducru is a quatrième cru classé Médoc estate so up there with the aristocracy of Bordeaux châteaux. It's an estate which has made great headway in the last twenty or so years. They were one of the first Bordeaux gravity fed wineries for example. These days they're undoubtedly producing some of the best wines to comes out of Saint-Julien.
When to drink:
This is at the peak of maturity and perfect for immediate drinking. The classic Claret - roast lamb combination is a sure fire winner with this.
