Description
At a Glance:
| Vibrant & Tangy White | Bone Dry | Medium-Bodied | Unoaked | Vegan | Greece | ABV 12.5% | 75cl |
In a Nutshell:
Vivid and savoury white from Attica, made in the traditional resinated style that delivers a distinctive herbal tang.
The Lowdown:
Retsina has a reputation - but this one might just surprise you. Made near Athens from the local Savatiano grape, it's fermented with a touch of pine resin, giving a distinctive lift without tipping into the overpowering. Sharp citrus, a flicker of herbs, and that resinous edge make for a dry, savoury wine with real bite. It's crisp, clean and full of character, with none of the rough corners you might remember. A retsina with freshness, balance, and a strong sense of identity.
The Producer:
Domaine Papagiannakos sits in the heart of Attica, just east of Athens, where vine-covered hills meet the Aegean breeze. Founded in 1919, the estate is now run by Vassilis Papagiannakos, who brings fresh energy to this third-generation family winery. Old vines of Savatiano and Malagouzia thrive in the regions dry, sunlit soils, producing wines full of clarity and character. Tradition runs deep here, but the approach is forward-lookingsustainable in the vineyard and modern in the cellar. A true reflection of Attica, past and present.
When to Drink:
Serve well chilled with mezze- grilled octopus, olives, fried courgettes or anything garlicky and salty will do nicely. The herbal tang and dry finish cut through oil and match big flavours effortlessly. Think of it as Greece's answer to fino Sherry.
