Description
In a nutshell:
Forget those 'drink me now', zesty Muscadets - this treasure boasts rich, densely textured layers of apricot and a decadent mouthfeel unlike anything you'd expect.
The lowdown:
It's got all the fresh aromas - think green apples and maybe a squeeze of lemon - that you'd expect. But don't be fooled, this isn't your average light and zippy Muscadet. The vines are seriously old - 50 years and hail from the cru village of Le Pallet - which gives it surprising depth. Expect bursts of apricot and an almost creamy richness. That's down to how it's made: aged for a whole 24 months on its lees in glass lined underground concrete tanks. Plus, the vineyards are all organic. Unlike most Muscadet, where you'd grab the newest bottle, this one's all about those extra flavours that come with a bit of time.
The Producer:
Domaine Ménard-Gaborit is a Muscadet producer quietly crafting some of the region's most fascinating wines. Their commitment to organic farming across all their vineyards sets a high standard and François Ménard aims to take this further by transitioning to a fully biodynamic approach. What sets them apart is the extended ageing of their wines from prestigious cru vineyards. While Muscadet is often enjoyed in its youth, Ménard-Gaborit's extended lees contact adds layers of complexity, subtly challenging expectations about these classic wines.
When to drink:
For a mellow and mature white like this a creamy fish dish or a lovely bit of hard cheese it what's wanted - give it a go.
Suitable for Vegans, Organic
