Description
Pilsner
Czechia
ABV 4.2% - 50.0cl
In a Nutshell:
A touch lighter in strength, but still every inch a Czech pilsner: bready malt, grassy Saaz and crisp resolve.
The Lowdown:
For those suspicious of "light" lagers, this one isn't on a diet. Seven weeks in the cellar see to that. The Pilsen malt brings its usual bakery notes - fresh crust and soft crumb - while Saaz hops do the heavy lifting with herbal spice and a clipped bitterness. It ferments a little faster than its burlier relatives, but ends up recognisably Czech - golden, brisk, and more robust than the numbers would have you believe.
The Brewery:
Nestled in northern Bohemia, close to the German border, Pivovar Cvikov is a great spot for those who appreciate traditional brewing with a modern twist. Though the original brewery shut down in 1968, it re-opened in 2014 and now turns out cracking small-batch, Bohemian-style beers. The brewery's been spruced up beautifully, blending old-school charm with updated touches - well worth a visit for some good beer and a bit of history.
