Description
In a nutshell:
A ripe, full-bodied St-Emilion Grand Cru with Merlot at its core, offering a satisfyingly long and elegant finish.
The lowdown:
The Todeschini brothers have a knack for crafting bold yet refined wines, and this is no exception. Full of bramble aromas with a subtle hint of herbs and spice, it strikes a fine balance between ripe plums, berries, and a fresh acidity. The fruit is treated with care, allowing the vineyard to shine through without too much intervention. Fine tannins provide structure, making it both elegant and silky on the palate. A thoroughly enjoyable wine that showcases the skill and restraint of its makers.
The Producer:
Owned and run by the Todeschini family since 1952, brothers Karl and Yann, grandchildren of the original owners, assumed responsibility for production at Château Mangot in 2008. With a recent focus on the development of their 34 hectares of vines their wines are well worthy of exploration. Situated between near the village of Saint-Étienne-de-Lisse at the eastern end of St-Émilion the area's clay-limestone soils are good for producing full, intense wines with a good minerality.
When to drink:
A good wine to match with roast beef, steak or rich game dishes.
