Description
In a nutshell:
A classic claret, showcasing complex tannins and black fruit flavours.
The lowdown:
This unoaked claret is quite a treat - rich and supple with layers of pure red fruit, spices, and red cherries. A blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, it bursts with aromas of black cherry and blackcurrant, with just a hint of toast and tobacco in the background. Supple and charming, the soft tannins give it a lovely harmony. For a Bordeaux Superieur that's both approachable and full of character, this one definitely hits the mark.
The Producer:
Château des Antonins derives its name from the Antonine monks who lived there for centuries, with some of the original 13th-century buildings still standing on the estate. The current owners, the de Roquefeuil family, took over in 1985 and have since transitioned the estate to sustainable practices. Most of their vineyards are planted with Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc, producing some excellent reds. They also have a few hectares of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon, which go into their good value white that shouldnt be overlooked. It's a lovely mix of history, tradition, and modern winemaking.
When to drink:
This wine would pair best with beef and venison dishes.
