Description
In a nutshell:
A superb rich and elegant dry white Bordeaux from that heart of Sauternes.
The lowdown:
A small part of Sigalas' vineyards are dedicated to dry whites and the result is this delicious 100% Semillon, the first vintage of which was 2009. Partially fermented in oak and then matured for 7 months in barrels on lees before bottling this is a rich, lucious and elegant wine with rich aromas of ripe lemon and orange, nectarine with honeyed and tropical notes. A full and rich palate follows with those ripe fruit and honeyed notes coming through supported by balanced acidity and lengthy, satisfying finish.
The Producer:
The Premier Cru Sauternes estate Château Sigalas Rabaud has been in the same family longer than any other 1855 classified growth in the appellation and at only 14 hectares is the smallest of them. Situated on a small hill on the renowned 'Sauternes Terrace' and overlooking the famous Chateau d'Yquem a few hundred meters away Sigalas Rabaud can lay claim to some of the best terroir south of Bordeaux, enhanced by good vineyard practices enabling the estate to have obtained the highest environmental status.
When to drink:
Should have the capacity to keep through this decade. Try with pork and veal dishes, game, or scallops or salmon.
