Description
In a nutshell:
A vibrant, layered Western Cape white blend with stone fruit, citrus, and delicate floral notes, rounded off with a textured, mineral finish.
The lowdown:
Made from a blend of Roussanne, Semillon, Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, and Clairette sourced from select Western Cape parcels, this is a beautifully layered white. Pressed with an old Vaslin press for a gentle oxidative character and naturally fermented in barrel, it spent ten months on fine lees for added depth. The nose reveals complex aromas of kiwi, ginger, apple skin, and yellow flowers, while the palate is rounded and textured with a hint of honey. A long, almost saline finish brings a crisp edge to this vibrant wine. It's both refreshing and intriguing.
The Producer:
Thorne & Daughters are at the forefront of South Africa's 'New Wave' wine movement, producing distinctive wines since 2013. Founders John and Tasha Thorne-Seccombe started their journey with support from fellow innovators Chris Alheit and Peter-Allan Finlayson, first sharing a cellar before settling at Gabriëlskloof, where their wines are crafted today. They focus on Cape white blends, drawing grapes from diverse growers across the Western Cape, including Stellenbosch and Swartland. John and Tasha work closely with growers, often using a 'lutte raisonnée' approach to minimise chemicals and enhance soil health, ensuring each wine truly reflects its origins.
When to drink:
This pairs wonderfully with chicken fricassée or pork medallions in a creamy mustard sauce, as its minerality and layered fruit notes bring out the delicate flavours and rich textures of these dishes.
Suitable for Vegans
