Description
In a nutshell:
A full and fruity, but still silky smooth Spanish red from the northeastern province of Aragon.
The lowdown:
The Garnacha grape is well suited to this part of inland north-east Spain with its arid growing conditions ad it makes up 75% of this delicous red blend - the remainder being Syrah. It's aged on its lees and spends a couple of month in oak barrels which gives adds to the ripe red and black fruit aromas. There's also plenty of this powerful fruit coming through on the palate which is nicelty rounded and full, but at the same time velvety and smooth. For wine at this price level it's brilliantly well balanced.
The Producer:
Bodegas Care sits not far from the town of Cariñena, one of the oldest wine producing regions of Aragon in northeast Spain. A relative newcomer, they started up in 2000 and make all their wines from their own vineyards at Finca Bancales and Finca Cadillos which extend to around 100 hectares in total. The modern winery, run by owner and head wine maker Nacho Lazaro, sits among the vineyards and is most definitely 'state of the art'. The wines they make are all excellent value and focus on Garnacha and Cariñena for the reds and Garnacha Blanca and Chardonnay for the whites.
When to drink:
An 'anytime' red that slips down a treat, it also pairs up well with poultry, grilled red meats and spicier foods.
Suitable for Vegans
