Description
In a nutshell:
Big and juicy, this Californian Cabernet Franc is packed with ripe red fruit, smooth tannins, and a touch of spice.
The lowdown:
Cabernet Franc is a grape that usually takes more of a back seat in California, but this proves it worthy of a moment in the spotlight. Classic herbaceous and tobacco notes are still there, just softened by the effect of California's warm climate which brings out ripe, juicy fruit. Medium-bodied and effortlessly smooth, it's packed with bright red berry flavours, balanced by fresh acidity. A brief two months in oak adds subtle structure without overshadowing the fruit. Easy-drinking yet full of character, it shows what this grape can do when give the headline role in these parts.
The Producer:
Boutinot, the guys responsible for this wine, is a big name in the UK's wine scene and are behind many labels seen on shelves up and down the country. Paul Boutinot kicked things off in 1980, starting with importing wines and soon partnering with winemakers around the globe. They've been working with California growers for several years now with most of the range being sourced from fruit grown in the warm Lodi region. Their secret is in backing passionate winemakers who aren't afraid to push the envelope, always aiming for wines that really capture the essence of their regions. This, along with providing excellent value for money, is something they've really nailed.
When to drink:
An easy-drinking red that'll shine alongside vegetarian fare - think mushroom risotto or a roasted vegetable tart - and will cut beautifully through the richness of your favourite tomato and meat ragu.
Suitable for Vegans
