Description
In a nutshell:
A delicious example of an underrated Burgundian grape variety
The lowdown:
Burgundys white wines are made from Chardonnay - except when theyre not. Every now and again youll come across the regions other white grape, Aligoté. Its an early ripener making wines with a crisp acidity and here its made in a fresh and delicately fragrant style. Citrus and mineral notes take centre stage and with good body and some chalky textural elements coming through it makes for a very moreish and mouth-watering wine.
The Producer:
Domaine Félix et Fils, helmed by Hervé Félix, is a long-standing family estate with roots stretching back to the late 1600s. Nestled in the northern Burgundian village of Saint-Bris Le Vineux, they cultivate about 30 hectares of vineyards across the local appellations. Alongside the Burgundy staples of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, they also grow Sauvignon Blanc and Aligoté. Known for good value Chablis, they also produce cracking examples of other regional specialities, particularly Irancy and Sauvignon Saint-Bris. Hervés focus on quality makes them a noteworthy name in this far-flung Burgundian outpost.
When to drink:
Would pair best with grilled or steamed white fish dishes and simple salads.
Suitable for Vegans
