Description
In a nutshell:
A vibrant and juicy Garnacha from Spain's rugged Aragon, bursting with red fruit flavours and a pleasing hint of peppery spice.
The lowdown:
Bursting with fresh red cherry and raspberry aromas, this Aragonese red has a lovely savoury edge think herbs and a hint of peppery spice. It's all about juicy red fruit flavours with a refreshing zip of acidity and a subtle, earthy minerality. It comes from old Garnacha vines planted up high in Valdejalón, where the unique soils give the wine its character. Made organically, and aged in concrete to keep things bright, this is all about vibrant fruit and makes for a seriously drinkable wine.
The Producer:
Bodegas Frontonio is spearheading a renaissance in Aragon's Valdejalón region. Founded by Fernando Mora MW, Mario López, and Francisco Latasa, they focus on revitalizing old Garnacha vineyards. Their high-altitude, mineral-rich sites, coupled with organic viticulture and minimal intervention winemaking, yield vibrant, terroir-driven wines. Expect peppery red fruit and distinctive minerality from slate soils, even occasional forays into natural wine territory. From the approachable Botijo Rojo to their complex single-vineyard expressions, Frontonio offers an authentic and compelling exploration of this underappreciated corner of Spain.
When to drink:
This juicy, fruit-forward red is a corker with a plate of sausages and mash - proper comfort food for any day of the week.
