Description
Spain: Balearics & Canaries
Crisp & Fresh White
Dry - Light-Medium Body - Lightly Oaked
Organic - ABV 13.0% - 75.0cl
In a Nutshell:
A fresh and vibrant Tenerife white with tropical fruit, citrus zip and a distinctive volcanic minerality.
The Lowdown:
The Canary Islands barely register as a wine region - most of what production there is stays local - yet what leaves has earned a reputation well beyond its size. This white is a classic example of what you'll see. Made mainly from established Listán Blanco vines, it brings tropical aromatics and zesty citrus-apple flavours shaped by Tenerife's volcanic soils. A small part gets to spend a couple of months in French oak which adds a subtle herbal edge and a faint smoky trace beneath. In all, it's an easy-to-like wine with character enough to give you a little bit to think about.
The Producer:
Nestled on the volcanic slopes of Tenerife's mighty Mount Teide, Bodegas Tajinaste is a bijou family winery. Cooling trade winds, courtesy of the Atlantic's 'vientos alisios', breeze through their Valle de la Orotava vineyards, situated between 300 and 500 metres above sea level. Here, on just six hectares, the García family works their magic. They're custodians of ancient vines, some Listán Negro and Listán Blanco planted over a century ago. With a focus on modern methods that respect tradition, Bodegas Tajinaste make wines that really show off the Canary Islands' unique viticultural heritage.
When to Drink:
Let the sunshine linger on your palate with a glass of this crisp white. It's a perfect partner for simply prepared seafood, or if you fancy something more exotic, try it alongside a fragrant south Asian curry.
