Description
In a nutshell:
A bright, juicy and fruit laden red Vin de Pays from the Languedoc.
The lowdown:
The Languedoc region that lies along France's western Mediterranean coast produces more wine than anywhere else in the country. And this unassuming Vin de Pays made near Beziers is an fine example of the type of good quality, but inexpensive wines that can be had from round here. A savoury blend of Grenache, Cinsault and Merlot this has plenty of fruit along with a very good structure. It's got red fruit aromas of cranberries and red cherries and is light, clean and fresh on the palate with hints of cassis and vanilla balanced with a lively acidity. It's a good example of the modern Southern French winemaker's art.
The Producer:
The estate producing the Bergerie de la Bastide range hails, from just outside Beziers and make a range of good value wines utilizing local grape varieties, traditional winemaking techniques, and sustainable agriculture.
When to drink:
A terrific value-for-money glugger which pairs up well with spicy Indian and Chinese fare.
Suitable for Vegans
