Description
In a nutshell:
A dry, precise, and powerful sparkling rose, full of fruity and herbaceous flavours, from Kent.
The lowdown:
This is a classic Balfour wine. It is their flagship sparkling wine that has been produced for six years and comes from their estate vineyard. It is a vintage wine from 2018, which is regarded as one of the best years in English viticultural history. On the nose, there is more cranberry than strawberries, showing its slightly richer flavours than other roses. A complex wine that is full of primary fruits, but also has hints of burnt orange and wonderful herbaceous notes on the finish.
The Producer: Balfour Winery
When Richard and Leslie Balfour-Lynn planted their first vines near Staplehurst in Kent back in 2002, they had plans to become leaders in the budding English wine industry. Their estate, nestled in the Weald of Kent, is perfect for viticulture and while they're best known for their sparkling wines, their still wines are also top-notch. They've definitely hit their objectives, with their wines certainly being held in high regard. As well as this, they've dived into "enotourism" in a big way, proudly calling themselves England's "best vineyard to visit".
When to drink:
Pairs well with chorizo and canapes, alternatively try with a lobster dish.
