The lowdown:
A blend of 75% Pinot Noir ad 25% Pinot Meunier, this wine is exactly as described in the name, a white wine from black grapes. The grapes for this wine come from across the two estates owned by Balfour, so a mixture of clay and limestone help influence the wine. As like all the vintage wine at Balfour, this wine has not undergone Malolactic Fermentation, so as to provide freshness and intensity to the ripe red fruit characteristics. A pale peach hue with copper highlights in colour. On the nose, aromas of tangerine and lime with blackcurrant undertones. The tangerine zest leads seamlessly onto the palate, rich and complex on the finish.

When Richard and Leslie Balfour-Lynn planted their first vines near Staplehurst in Kent back in 2002, they had plans to become leaders in the budding English wine industry. Their estate, nestled in the Weald of Kent, is perfect for viticulture and while they're best known for their sparkling wines, their still wines are also top-notch. They've definitely hit their objectives, with their wines certainly being held in high regard. As well as this, they've dived into "enotourism" in a big way, proudly calling themselves England's "best vineyard to visit".
When to drink:
Would pair well with roasted duck or a meaty white fish dish.
