Description
In a nutshell:
A refreshing, bright and fruity South African Chenin Blanc from the Breede River Valley
The lowdown:
William Robertson was a Scottish minister who founded the town named after him in the Breede River valley in the 1850s and is the name the Robertson Winery have used for a range of their popular and good value varietals. The Chenin Blanc is fermented entirely in stainless steel to keep all the bright, primary fruit to the fore. It has bold aromas of peach, melon, citrus fruits and jasmine which lead on to a ripe, fresh palate bursting with sun drenched fruit which is balanced by clean, refreshing acidity. A seriously good value Chenin Blanc.
The Producer:
The Robertson Winery is one of the largest producers in South Africa and is based in the town of the same name in the Breede River Valley about 100 miles east of Cape Town. The winery was created in 1941 as a cooperative, which is how it still operates, and takes fruit from over 2,000 hectares of vines. They produce a wide range of different wines many from widely seen varieties of Chardonnay, Pinotage and Chenin Blanc.
When to drink:
While fresh and light it's also rounded enough to stand up to oriental cuisine as well as being a perfect partner to seafood and salads.
