Description
In a nutshell:
A juicy, crunchy and racy Natural Wine from the southern Italian region of Campania.
The lowdown:
London Sommlier Jack Lewens is the main man behind Vigneti Tardis and his objective is to produce organic wines as naturally as possible with nothing added apart from the absolute minimum of sulphur. There are 7 wines in the range, each named after a day of the week. So this one corresponds to 'Tuesday'. This isn't what you'd usually get from Aglianico, the workhorse grape of this southerly part of Italy. It's full of vibrant, crunchy red fruit and very aromatic and fresh. The tannins are deliberately kept low to make it superbly gluggable especially if served slightly chilled.
The Producer:
Vigneti Tardis is a joint venture between Jack Lewens, sommelier and owner of Leroy in Shoreditch, and his friend Bruno di Conciliis of Viticoltori di Conciliis in Cilento, Campania. Together they cultivate 3.6 hectares of vineyards, producing around 25,000 bottles annually. Using only indigenous grapes like Aglianico, Aglianicone, Fiano, and Malvasia, they farm organically and biodynamically. Their wines are crafted with minimal intervention and low sulphur additions, resulting in artisanal, hands-off creations. Unlike the region's typically powerful wines, these offer a delicate, less extracted style with exceptional drinkability and individuality.
When to drink:
An excellent choice, slightly chilled, for a summer's day in the garden, or round the barbecue.
