Description
In a nutshell:
Brimming with black and red berry flavours, this sunny Veneto red also has a playful hint of lavender and violet.
The lowdown:
To move away from big, jammy reds for a second, this Valpolicella Classico is all about wild plums, wild cherries, and crisp hedgerow fruit. Theres also a sprinkle of anise, a hint of cumin, and a vibrant, almost blood-orange acidity. It comes from the original Valpolicella vineyards - that's what the "Classico" on the label means. Light, whispering tannins, and quiet, lingering flavours make it true to where it's from. One of the best "straight" Valpolicella Classicos around.
The Producer:
Monte del Frà , meaning Friars Hill, traces its roots back to the 14th century when a monastery first established vineyards on the land. However it wasn't until 1988 when Eligo and Claudio Bonomo began developing the family estate into the substantial operation it has since become. Over the years, they've expanded to around 200 hectares across Valpolicella and the surrounding area, making it one of the region's significant producers. Now with the third generation - Marica, Silvia, and Massimo Bonomo - on board the focus remains on producing elegant, terroir-driven wines that continue to uphold the estate's reputation.
When to drink:
Enjoy this vibrant, easy-drinking red with anything from charcuterie to a classic cheeseburger - a versatile delight for laid-back meals.
