Description
Brown, Mild & Old Ale
England: London
ABV 4.8% - 50.0cl
In a Nutshell:
One of February's monthly specials this is a warming dark ale - perfect for chilly evenings. Expect notes of coffee and chocolate with just a hint of honey sweetness.
The Lowdown:
It's a dark mild and smells a bit like dark chocolate, coffee and a touch of caramel. You'll definitely taste a bit of honey sweetness in there too. Not a fancy beer, but it's got good flavour, and the sweetness isn't over the top. It's one of those beers that goes down surprisingly easy for its strength. Great for those colder months think cosy evenings by the fire, or maybe after a good walk, with a hearty meal or a nice bit of cheese.
The Brewery
When the initial barrels starting rolling out of Twickenham Fine Ales in 2005 they were the first to be brewed in the town since 1906. On the back of their bottles you'll spot the motto Inspired by Tradition which sums up their ethos pretty well. Don't mix them up with new wave indie breweries. Mango-infused IPAs and lactose-laden imperial stouts aren't their stock-in-trade. Better to think of them as a bastion of brewing sanity in this dizzying age of anything goes.
