Description
In a nutshell:
Full bodied, dense and inky Vintage Port from one of the oldest Port houses.
The lowdown:
2003 was a year which provided some intense heat in the Douro making it stand out as a potential vintage year. This, though has the Taylor's imprint on it more than the general 2003 characteristics. It's richly textured, with firm tannins which hold the concentrated grapey flavours really well.
The Producer:
Taylor's is one of the oldest and most respected Port houses, with a history that stretches back over 300 years. Among their three Quintas, Vargellas is probably the best known and most well regarded, producing some of their finest Ports. Taylor's is also credited with originating Late Bottled Vintage (LBV) Ports, a style that has gained immense popularity over the years. Their approach is all about maintaining tradition while crafting quality Ports that stand the test of time.
When to drink:
It's still at a youthful stage and will probably start to come into it's own during the mid 2020s.
Vintage ports throw a deposit in bottle so should be decanted prior to serving.
