Description
In a nutshell:
A half bottle of a vivid, lively Tokaji, one of Hungary's famous dessert wines.
The lowdown:
The village of Mád, from where this wine comes from, is the most prestiguous of the famous Tokaji region where some of the best sweet wines in the world hail from. The winemaking is thoroughly up to date and in particular allows the unique minerality evident in the wines to shine through. The natural high sugar concentration is well balanced by a refreshing acidity which let the floral and fruity aromas and honeyed apricot flavours blend perfectly with the teasing sweetness.
The Producer:
István Szepsy is one of Hungary's famous winemakers and together with his son, István junior, they established the Szent Tamás winery with the intention of putting Dry Furmint firmly on the world map. They are based in the village of Mád, in the heart of the Tokaji region and have 15 hectares of vineyards spread across the surrounding area which have been shaped by volcanic eruptions millions of years ago. World famous for the exquisite, sweet wines produced here, István Sr and Jr know that this volcanic terroir is his key to proving that his dry wines are just as good. They create wines with unique flavours somewhere between Loire Chenin and Chablis in style, that are refreshing with an underlying minerality that feels like it comes directly up from those ancient volcanic soils.
When to drink:
Quite simply, it's a great pudding wine and also very good with cheese.
Suitable for Vegans
