Description
Firm & Spicy Red
Medium-Full Body, Oaked
Piedmont, ABV 13.5%, 75cl
Vegan
In a Nutshell:
Elegant and structured, this Piedmont Nebbiolo has plenty of spice, fine tannins, and a classic, no-nonsense charm.
The Lowdown:
Nebbiolo d'Alba sits just next to Barolo and Barbaresco in the Langhe hills, offering a lighter, fresher take on Piedmont's signature grape variety while still holding onto its classic character. Here, a year in large oak casks gives the tannic backbone you want, but without taking over or overshadowing the fruit. There's plenty of ripe cherry and warm spice, with silky vanilla weaving through, adding a touch of sophistication and polish. The finish is long and elegant, the balance spot on, and while theres depth and structure, it stays inviting rather than demanding. If you like the idea of Nebbiolo without the wait, this one's got you covered.
The Producer:
San Silvestro, with over 150 years of history, is a well-established family estate in the commune of Novello, tucked away in the southwest corner of the Barolo region. Now run by cousins Paolo and Guido Sartirano, the winery combines its own 7 hectares of vineyards with fruit sourced from a network of trusted local growers across Barolo and beyond. The focus is firmly on sustainable practices, working with traditional Piedmontese varieties to create wines that are both authentic and approachable.
When to Drink:
Wild mushroom risotto or venison ragù are spot-on here.A food wine with versatility, its bright acidity cuts through richness while the cherry and spice notes get on famously with all things deep, dark, and earthy.
