Description
In a nutshell:
Crisp and refreshing Canadian Riesling from British Columbia's Okanagan Valley.
The lowdown:
Using a combination of early and late picked fruit from their vineyards in East and West Kelowna enabled them to bring a fresh acidity to the rounder, nectarine and tangering flavours found the riper fruit. Slow fermentation in stainless steel has given the finished wine a vibrancy to balance the zesty aromatics. While drinking well now, given a bit of bottle age, the acidity will mellow somewhat giving a more mellow character.
The Producer:
Situated in British Columbia's Okanagan Valley just outside of Kelowna, Quails' Gate can trace its origins back to 1908 when the Stewart family first settled in this part of Canada, although the family planted their first vines in 1961, the winery itself didn't come along till later in 1989. Since then, Quails' Gate has become one of the leading producers of premium wines in British Columbia and under current CEO Tony Stewart the founding family remain committed to the project and are certainly making some impressive wines.
When to drink:
Great with many types of seafood, salmon, or poultry
